Free workshop – BAME Lib Zine issue #02

Last year I facilitated a zine making workshop for BAME library staff member at Stuart Hall Library, and together we produced a zine documenting the experience of being a minority in a 97% white profession. The resulting zine is available online.

On Saturday 28th September, I am running a follow-up zine making workshop, this time focused on the topic of  ‘Surviving the Sector.’

What are your top tips to fellow BAME library workers? How do you deal with microaggressions? What training and professional development opportunities have you found most useful? Stories of mentorship?

Who is the workshop for?

The session is primarily for Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, QTIPOC librarians and informational professionals who wish to share their experiences and create a toolkit to support others in the sector.

The workshop will include:

  • Quick introduction to zines and a look at the Stuart Hall Library zine collection.
  • Discussion on the theme of ‘Surviving the Sector’
  • Hands on zine-making

After the workshop, he work will be collated into a digital zine to be shared online. I also aim to share the zine with libraries with zine collections who may be interested in holding a physical copy. I will create a credits list at the back of the zine, your work can be submitted under an anonymous name if you wish.

Stuart Hall Library have very kindly agreed to host this workshop in their new location and will provide scissors, paper, glue, pencils, pens, makers and access to a photocopier. However, this is run without a budget so please help out by bringing, pencils, glue stick, scissors, old magazines if you have any.
